What does it take to create good graphic design?
An understanding of the elements and principles of design

What is the difference between elements and principles?
Elements are what you put on the screen principles are how you organize elements

Name the six (6) elements of design.
Line, shape/form, space, texture, value, and color

What can lines aid in, when alone or combined with other lines or shapes
Readability, apperance, and message of the design

Which lines suggest a feeling of rest? Why do you think?
Horizontal lines because they stay the same

Vertical lines communicate a feeling of what? Why do you think?
Loftiness because they are going up

What lines suggest a feeling of movement? Why do you think?
Diaginal lines because they are moving up and over

Soft, shallow curved lines suggest what? Why do you think?
Comfort, saftey, and relaxation because it is soft and curved and safe

These lines suggest confusion and turbulence? Why do you think?
Deep acute curves because the are sharp and rapid

What element defines a specific area of space?
shape

What is the difference between two dimensional shapes and three dimensional shapes?
A 2d shape has width and height a 3d shape has depth width and height

Describe the difference between geometric shapes and organic shapes?
Geometric shapes are structured and symmetric organic shapes are irregular and fluid

What are abstract shapes?
Stylized/ simplified versions of natural shapes

Which basic shape projects an attitude of honesty or equality?
honesty

What do triangles suggest?
Action, stability

Circles convey feelings of what?
protection

Describe positive space and negative space?
Positive space is area contains elements
Negitive space is area around elements

What is texture?
Surface of design

Incorporating texture into a design can help do what?
Richness and depth

What is value?
Degree of light and dark

What is another name for value?
tone

What can the element of color do when incorporated into a design?
It can convey moods, create images, attract attention, and identify objects
